Conflict of Interest Purge at TPSAC

The FDA finally obeyed the District Court ruling of July 21, 2014, to reconstitute the Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee (TPSAC), due to conflicts of interest with pharmaceutical companies. Its chairman, the infamous Jonathan Samet, is gone, along with three others – Claudia Barone, Joanna Cohen, and Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin, all militant anti-smokers, needless to say. Samet is truly the rottenest of the rotten, but my joy at seeing him gone is tempered with regret that it was for the wrong reason. It should have been because his flagrant scientific fraud in the Surgeon General reports, etc., made him unsuitable to occupy any federal position other than a cell in a penitentiary.

Statement from Mitch Zeller (Director of the FDA Center for Tobacco Products, Mar. 5, 2015)

Zeller came to the FDA from Pinney Associates, which was created by John Mercer Pinney (Skull & Bones 1965), who was the first director of the Office on Smoking and Health in 1978, and ‘manager’ of the 1977-8, 1979, 1980, and 1981 Surgeon General Reports. Zeller was originally a lawyer for the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), who promote pseudo-science, before moving into the federal government. “In 1993 Zeller joined the staff of then-FDA Commissioner Dr. David Kessler, M.D. What began as a two-week assignment by Kessler to examine the practices of the tobacco industry led to his serving as associate commissioner and director of FDA’s first Office of Tobacco Programs. Instrumental in crafting’s the agency’s 1996 tobacco regulations, Zeller also represented FDA before Congress, federal and state agencies. Zeller also served as an official U.S. delegate to the World Health Organization (WHO) Working Group for the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.” He was an executive vice president of the American Legacy Foundation (anti-smoking hate propagandists funded with smokers’ own money from the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement) until 2002, when he joined Pinney Associates.

Zeller whines that “This is a loss for the FDA and for public health. Under other circumstances, there would be strong reasons for the agency to consider a waiver or authorization that would allow these individuals to continue their valuable service. However, in light of Judge Leon’s ruling, we do not believe we are able to exercise our discretion to consider this option at this time.”

This entity, the FDA Center for Tobacco Products and everyone connected with it, is utterly corrupt in every possible way, of which pharmaceutical money is the least important. Every single one of them is our fanatical enemy and none whatsoever is impartial. It openly operates under the principle of ruthless exclusion of OUR interests, another example of how the United States Government brazenly tramples on our rights! Naturally the three (so far) new members are just as rotten as the rest: Pebbles Fagan, Gary A. Giovino, and Thomas E. Novotny (a vile old war horse).
